Cailan's Kayak Adventure in Support of Wildlife

Picture
Hi, my name is Cailan, and I’m an avid fundraiser for Aspen valley wildlife sanctuary. I don’t just work with wildlife because I love animals, I do it because animals are a big part of the survival of the human race. Every animal has a job on earth, and without these animals doing their job, the future of the human species is at risk.

We need animals that spread nuts and seeds, so we have trees and plants.
We need animals that eat ticks and mosquitoes, because they spread disease.

Some animals that we see as a pest, are actually doing us a favour, such as bats, possums, raccoons etc.

When we lose a species it starts a snowball effect, and we lose another...and another, until we, at the top of the food chain will be left without food sources, without clean air, and worse.

Two dozen species went extinct last year and the numbers are only going up.

Aspen valley wildlife sanctuary is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Ontario.  Many have been shut down over the past few years because of lack of funding.  The government does not give  funding to wildlife sanctuaries - they rely solely on volunteers and public donation.

For this reason, it is my goal to raise awareness and funds to help take care of these animals, feed them and provide proper habitats, not only for the animals but for our future.

I hope you join me with this goal on a new project that I’m taking on this summer.  My goal is to kayak or canoe from Huntsville to Arnold’s bay, which is right at the opening of Georgian bay, I’ll come down from Huntsville to Bracebridge, cross lake Muskoka and go up into Bala River. There’s probably 20 portages and waterfalls, it’s not going to be an easy trip, but what better way to raise awareness for wildlife and nature than becoming a part of it and appreciating it for what it is today and hope that it will stay this way forever.

I hope to raise $100,000.  It’s a big number but I think it can be done.  Muskoka is a big community that pulls together when needed  and so many people come here to enjoy the beauty that Muskoka has to offer.   I’m reaching out to each and every one of you that love Muskoka as much as I do to help me help Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary.

Help keep wildlife wild and help me achieve my goal of $100,000.
