Lexi the Silver fox was rescued by authorities from a roadside zoo and joined us in July 2019. She will remain at Aspen Valley as a permanent resident of the Sanctuary.
Lexi is such a sweetheart and is loving her big new enclosure beside Old Man Fox (Red fox) and we are hoping that one day they will be room mates. The Silver fox and Red fox actually come from the same family of breeds. The only exception is that a Silver fox has a form of melanism which is a development of dark colored pigmentation of the skin.
She is very friendly and always eager for food. Typical of a fox, she is sometimes seen storing her food; however, when it comes to live minnows and clams from her pool she eats them all up. Lexi, like other omnivores, eats both meat and plant foods like fruits and vegetables.
