This has been our busiest year for admissions of orphaned wildlife. Many animals in our care have already started to be released back to their natural environments in the wild - this is the most rewarding time of the year for our animal care team and volunteers. Supporters of Aspen Valley and the work that we do has made this possible.
Some orphaned species stay in our care for a year or more. This winter we have 8 otter pups until their release in the spring. Daily nutrition and enrichment are necessary for their development and well-being. Their primary diet consists of smelts. They will consume 2 x 10lbs boxes at a cost of approximately $35.00 per day. Smelts are a special order food item that is shipped frozen.
To keep it from spoiling, we are also in need of an additional large size freezer.
These wildlife babies are growing up fast and will remain in our care until they are ready for release back to the wild. Please consider donating to our Otter Pups Fund.
